VAJRAYANA BUDDHISM

Vajrayana Buddhism, often referred to as the “Diamond Way” or “Tantric Buddhism,” is a branch of Mahayana Buddhism that developed in India and later flourished in Tibet and the Himalayan regions. It presents a system of philosophy and practice aimed at achieving enlightenment through the integration of wisdom (insight into reality) and method (compassionate action).

Vajrayana can be understood as building upon foundational Buddhist teachings such as the Four Noble Truths, impermanence, and non-self. What distinguishes Vajrayana is its use of advanced contemplative techniques—including visualization, mantra recitation, ritual, and symbolic imagery—to accelerate the path to awakening. These practices are traditionally undertaken with the guidance of a qualified teacher and within an established lineage.

From an academic perspective, Vajrayana is notable for its rich textual traditions (tantras), complex ritual systems, and highly developed psychological frameworks. Its methods are often interpreted as skillful means (upāya) designed to transform ordinary perception into enlightened awareness, rather than to reject or transcend lived experience.

Karma Tashi Jungné offers an accessible entry point for Western audiences who are new to Vajrayana, presenting reliable information grounded in both traditional sources and contemporary scholarship. Participants will find clear explanations of key concepts, historical context, and introductory practices, enabling a deeper understanding of this unique and influential Buddhist tradition.
